My old William Gilbert black mantle clock

by Windell Adkins
(Snow Hill, NC)

Stamped on the working, seen thru the back whole is William Gilbert, patent June 3, 1879 Gilbert Clock Co.

It is heavy and black, stands about a foot high, has lion heads holding rings on the sides, a young man with a plumed hat and a sword.

We had it fixed from where I ( as a kid over wound it).

We were also told that the gong was not in the case, so it is a quite clock, sort of. The person who repaired it said it was worth about 300.00. Is this still true. One of the lions need some fixing also.
