Linden Mantle Clock

Hi,

I have a mantle clock that is giving me a great deal of trouble right now. It used to work beautifully but keeps stopping now. To give you some details about the clock - - - -

I have a mantle clock that looks like this. On the inside it says:

80
Cuckoo Clock MFG
Co. INC
NO (0) Jewels
unadjusted
Made in Germany
1051-20
15cm
---------
178.28

On the face it says Linden
There are 3 holes to wind. The first one on the left feels very tight.
The middle one and the right one seem a little looser.

I have been trying to keep the pendulum moving in case it has been over wound but it keeps stopping so it seems to be taking a long time.

There are 2 or 3 different chimes on the clock.

Can you give me some suggestions regarding getting this clock to work??

Thank you.

Mantle Clock Stopping
by: Bruce S.

i WOULD SUSPECT THAT THE GREASE USED ON THE WINDERS, AND SPRINGS IS OLD AND HAS BECOME TACKY THICK LIKE TAR OR BECOME HARD CAUSING THE CLOCK TO STOP. iT COULD ALSO BE THAT ALL THE PIVOT POINTS WHERE THE WHEELS (GEARS) TURN HAVE ALSO BECOME DRY OR HAVE A BUILD UP OF DUST AND DIRT FROM YEARS OF EXPOSURE TO THE AIR WHICH WILL ALSO CAUSE IT TO STOP. oNE LAST THING IT THAT THE MOVEMENT IN THE CLOCK AS WITH ALMOST ALL OLD CLOCKS MUST BE LEVEL BOTH SIDE TO SODE AND FRONT TO BACK ELSE THE PENDULUM WILL NOT TRAVEL THE CORRECT DISTANCE (EQUAL) FROM RIGHT TO LEFT OR THE SWING MAY BE HINDERED IF IT IS SCRUBBING OR LEANING FRON TO BACK IN EITHER DIRECTION.
i WOULD RECOMEND THAT YOU TAKE IT TO A RELIABLE CLOCK REPAIR SHOP OR CONTACT THE OWNER OF THIS BLOG AND ASK IF HE CAN DIRECT YOU TO SOMEONE WITHIN YOUR AREA IF YOUR CLOCK IS WORTH PAYING TO HAVE A PRO CLEAN AND ADJUST IT CORRECTLY.

BEST WISHES,
