New Haven Mantel Clock

I know very little about this clock. I was told it is a "Captain's Mantle Clock." It was given to me as a gift from a friend, because I once told him "I admired the way it looked on his bookshelf."

When his wife passed on, his ex-daughter-in-law and myself helped him move things into storage, etc., as he had sold the home and was moving. As we quit for the day and were getting ready to leave, he gave his daughter-in-law some things in a box that he had set aside, and then handed me a large cardboard box, saying "thank you for your help."

Inside was the clock. He told me that he had lost the key years ago, and the chimes didn't work right either, and that it was "just a dust collector".

I have no idea how old it is. I would like to find a key for it, and also get the chimes working right. When you look in the back, you can see that one or two lanyards on the striking mechanism are broke. I have no idea what they are made of, but they are somewhat flexible. I was told the clock was working, when he lost the key.

It is a New Haven Clock with Westminster Chimes. Thats about all I know.
