Seth Thomas No. 2

by Mike
(Altadena, CA)

Hey Bill,

I just bought at an estate sale a Seth Thomas No. 2, mahogany case. Probably 1921-1922. Movement is 77B.

In removing hands I noticed the hand arbor threads have been stripped (knurled nut keeps hands on). Can just barely get the nut to stay on. Funny, the arbor is steel/iron, the nut looks like brass, yet the arbor has the most damage(?)

Is this a real P.I.T.A. or is there a simple fix you'd suggest? Can it be re-threaded and put a spring-type insert in the nut?? Who can do it?
