German cuckoo clock .

The pendulum only swings for about 20 seconds and stops . There is a back panel that I removed and there is a circular type spring fastened to the back . Does this obviously have some importance in the operation of the clock ?

I can't seem to figure what the significance of the spring is . Could you kindly advise as the clock was brought back to Canada by my wife's parents from Germany .

Cuckoo Clock
by: Bill

The circular wire attached to the back of your clock is a "gong" that makes a noise before the bird cuckoos. It is sounded by the metal hammer sticking out from the rear of the movement. If the clock does not sound a gong sound before each cuckoo, this hammer needs to be bent slightly until it hits the gong.

It does not affect the operation of the clock in any other way.
