Clock Works for 3-days When Wound.

I have a Smiths England wall barrel spring driven clock. The spring broke and I joined the same and after that the clock will not run with the original pendulum. I reduced the weight of the pendulum to half and the clock will work for three days instead of 8 days. Is it because the main spring is weak or is it due to some other reason? Thanks for reply.
