Can't move minute hand on New England Clock

by Greg Hartwick
(Goshen, NY)

When setting the time on this New England brand grandfather clock,I have to remove the pendulum and let the clock run until the correct time is reached when running slow ,or stop the pendulum if its runnig fast, then start it at the correct time.I cannot move the minute hand regardless of the chime off-on position. Is this normal for this brand clock,or is something broken?

Tight minute hand
by: Bill

Hi Greg,

It sounds like the "hand clutch", which is a mechanism to allow the movement of the minute hand for setting the clock,is either rusted or just too tight. It is not something that is an easy diy repair unless you know a lot about clock movements.

I would suggest having a repair service look at it.

Thanks for posting.
