Battery Info for Howard Miller Quartz

I have a Howard Miller Model 613-103 Mantle Quartz Clock.

Serial # D1430636

Bar Code 02086700163

My question is in the back of this clock it looks like 2 AA batteries should fit but I can only get one to fit. When I put one in nothing happens. The clock is not keeping time or chiming. Can you please tell me the procedure for putting in a new battery or batteries for this clock. I see a dial that says Adj with arrows. I do not know if something needs to be done with this.
