Stag Clock by W.L. Gilbert Clock Co.

I would like to learn more about this clock. I have been searching everywhere and can't find one quite like this. My in-laws were going to throw it away but my husband and I think it's neat.

It is made by W.L. Gilbert Clock Co. in Winsted, Conn. PAT APR. 28-96 is the only other marking on it.

I would appreciate any information you have to share about this clock. I am now on a quest to learn the history of this clock! Please help!
