Seth Thomas Grandmother Clock won't stop chiming

by Rachel
(Decatur, Il)

My grandmother clock has taken a spell where it starts chiming on the hour then doesn't stop chiming. It's a westminster chime, I took the top off and now it has stopped chiming on the 15 minute interval as well.

WHAT ORDER DO THE WEIGHTS GO?
by: Anonymous

I moved and in the confusion, the weights got rearranged and I can't seem to get them in the right place. It's a floor clock that was purchased in the late 70s or early 80s.

Would appreciate your help.

Thank you.

The problem you have is usually caused by sticking parts on the front of the movement where the rack, snail and other levers and springs all have to move freely. The clock most likely needs to be serviced. Old oil and dirt gums these parts up after several years.
