Question about Tambour clock
by: Tom Kennedy

I have a similar mantle clock. Could you please tell me what three winding attachments are for, one above the 8 one above the 6,and one above the 4 on the clock face. Also the push-pull knobs inside the 12 and below. One last question, when does your clock chime , on the hour ? 1/2 hour? 1/4hour?
Thank you for your time.

good looking clock

The three winding ports are for the quarter (westminister) chimes, the hour bong that match the exact hour, and lastly the clock itself. There are also a couple of small ports near the # 12. It is here that you can silence the chimes/bongs if you wish via the lower of the two ports. The top port adjusts the speed of the clock. This should be done in very small turns, wait a day or so and see if it needs to be tweek a bit more. Once you have this set the clocks keeps great time. The clock in this photo does not have the quarter chimes as it is only a two port style. I believe it is also from the early 30's and the winding key would also be a little different style than a three winding port clock.

I have the exact same clock with the 3 big key wind up holes at the lower part of the face. Is the windup for the quarter hour chime the hole on the right?
