My Mom's Gilbert mantle clock

My mother inherited it from my grandfather after he died in 1947. She told me that he had bought it at Sears, but I wonder if it might be older than that.

It has a walnut case, Roman numerals for the numbers, and it chimes on the hour. There is a small bell associated with it, which has never worked since I've known it (gears are stripped in the winder), but my older brother says he thought it used to chime on the qauarter hour.
