"MERCURY" MANTLE CLOCK
by: VICKI

BOUGHT THE SAME CLOCK AT AN AUCTION TODAY IN OHIO. EXACTLY LIKE YOURS EXCEPT NOT PAINTED. CANNOT FIND ANY INFO EITHER.

same clock

I was just handed down the exact same clock today. mine is that rusted brass color, no paint, and it still works, chime and all. i was searching around to find out who the statue was, and i truly believe this is the same clock. as for getting it restored, i have been told that keeping it the rusted brass color is needed to keep its value, however the insides can be cleaned and rebuilt to work.

According to this website,

http://www.roschmittfinearts.com/archives/2005May.php?pg=9

it is worth $700 to $900 in good condition. Whether the paint would add or detract from that sum I do not know.

I was told mine was made in 1884 but can`t find anything on it. Seen one sell at auction a few weeks ago. It sold for $550.00 and was not all there. It had a lot missing. The autionier said mine should bring $1500.00 -$2000.00 Wheather or not i don`t think i would sell mine for less than $1000.00. Sentialmental value has a lot to do with it. Been in the family a long time. Still looking for more info on it.

I have a clock very similar to yours but mine has like a toggle on each side. Ebay currently has one but is missing a toggle. I also found a site that gave the history of ansonia which was really innteristing. Worthpoint was a site that wanted you to pay to get access for value.
