Loose spring on regulator clock.

I believe someone wound the "Chime Spring?" the wrong direction on my Regulator clock. It will not chime and when I go to wind the spot with the key, it just slips and won't grip anything. I recently wanted to slow down the clock and when I opened the door to get to the pendulum, I noticed a wide metal loop hanging down to the base of the pendulum compartment. Is the spring loose and is this something I or my husband can repair ourselves? (Please excuse my terminology as I am unfamiliar with the names of clock parts.) |
