Hi, your clock is definately a 'Deco' style clock, probably from the 30's or 40's. From what you describe the chime to sound like, it sounds like it is a 'Bim Bam' chime clock. It is an 8 day clock, which means it runs for a week, then needs to be re-wound.
It also looks like the case has been stripped and refinished at some point. It probably had a very high gloss shine as an original finish.
