Jerome 2 weight beehive pattern clock

I have just bought this at an auction but it doesn't tick for long. Does anyone know the year of manufacture? Also, should the pendulum have a thin steel spring at the top that should slot into the small spindle on the front of the brass frame? (I think mine is a home-made wire pendulum that simply loops over the spindle)
