Is it French, English or some other origin?

This clock came from the Palmer House Hotel in Chicago and was inherited by us. We know absolutely nothing about it.

The clock works have been replaced so they are of no help in identifying it. We doubt it has any value because of this but we would really like to know its origin and anything else we could find out about it.

A relative had it for decades and now we have it. It appears to be marble. It's dimensions are 20 1/4" High X 29 1/4" wide X 6" deep. I would also like to know what to use to clean it.
