Help dating a Gilbert movement.

Clock movement by Wm. L Gilbert

Clock movement by Wm. L Gilbert

My father found this movement a few years back, fixed it up (somewhat) and put it in his own home made frame. He's gone now, but I would like some help identifying the type of clock this belongs in.

It has a steel frame (magnetic), "17" stamped in the center below the main hand shaft, "\G\" on the left, and "Wm L GILBERT CLOCK CO, WINSTED CONN, U.S.A" stamped on the right.

There's also a faint "253" stamped on the lower right.

Does anyone have any idea on how old this is, and what the clock frame should really look like?

Greg
