Eight Day Spring Wound Pendulum New England Wall Clock

We received the clock in 1983 as a wedding gift. I believe the clock has been wound too tight and the pendulum no longer swings. I have the original paperwork which shows the suspension lever and talks about adjustments, but I didn't want to do anything before I consult with someone.

Any help is appreciated.

The first thing that should be done is to have it cleaned and oiled. This is what causes most clocks to stop running. It should be done at least every 5 years.

If your clock has not been serviced within the past 5 years, this is the most likely cause for it to stop. If the clock has been running since 1983 without service, it most likely will need to be overhauled, since the bushings wear quickly when they are run dry.
