Broken New England Wall Clock

by Dennis M. O'Donnell
(Lansford, PA USA)

I own a New England wall clock identical to the one on the DiscoverClocks.com home page.

The weight for the time works fine, but today I noticed the weight for the strike lost tension. If I try to pull the weight up using the chain it moves up, but immediately goes down.

There's not a ratcheting sound similar to when the time weight is pulled up.

This is one of the first things my wife & I purchased after moving into this house and it has sentimental value.

My wife calls it a family heirloom.

Any suggestions??
