Richard Duke
by: Ken

Hi Terri,
My Dad knew Richard Duke very well. Richard was a wood worker and a very talented one. He and my Dad were both members of the NAWCC (National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors). I am a member also. Richard visited my Dad in Akron and I met him there. Subsequently, when my Dad and I went to a clock show in Ft Wayne, Indiana we went to Richard's house. We commonly referred to him as Dick. He had wood working machinery that most woodworkers only dream of owning. He made parts for my Dad when he needed something to restore a clock. He also refinished and made parts for an antique walnut baby bed that my parents owned and that I now own. He also made a chess board for me. I know that he passed away years ago but I am uncertain exactly when. My Dad also passed away 4 years ago and I know Dick died maybe ten or more years before my Dad. He was married and I am uncertain if his wife is still alive. As I remember when we went to his house I thought it was in Ft Wayne, but Muncie is not far from there so maybe it was there. Not sure. I will be going to a clock show in Auburn, Indiana in October. If you want me to I can ask around and see if I can find someone who know Dick and put you in touch with them if I find anyone. Regarding the clock's movement, my guess is that it might be K & P which stands for Kilborne and Proctor. It was a movement that many later banjo clock makers used when they made cases for banjos. Elmer O Stennes used them, and so did Ted Burleigh and I think Foster Campos may have used them too. That would be my guess. You can email me at bigclox@aol.com. If you want me to check around for you in Auburn. The show in Auburn is still called the FT Wayne show because that is where it was originally. Hope this helped somewhat. Ken
