The clock is a three-footed, all brass, alarm clock with "The Automatic" printed on the top third of the face, "Harvard" on the bottom third and "Made in the USA" in small print at the bottom.

The alarm mechanism is totally inside the clock The back has a raised section held in place by three slot screws. The back has a screw-type button marked "stop," one marked "alarm set," and a third unmarked. There are two keys, "alarm wind" and "time wind." There are two slides at the outside below the raised section marked "awake/silent" and "s/f." The alarm hand is red while the time hands are black.
